Our Impact in Kenya and Somalia
GIRD GLOBAL has undertaken a joint response with Guricel Mid-Wife Association to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, targeting communities in Galgamudug, Somalia. This initiative involved the distribution of hygiene kits and Menstrual Health and Hygiene sets, ensuring that vulnerable populations received essential supplies during the pandemic.
Additionally, we conducted community awareness campaigns focusing on COVID-19 prevention, collaborating closely with local health ministries. These efforts included the implementation of handwashing kits and the promotion of good hygiene practices in both Kenya and Somalia.
Our water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects have improved access to clean water sources, enhanced sanitation conditions, and promoted good hygiene practices within communities. This outcome encompasses several key elements, including:
- Provision of clean drinking water.
- Construction of sanitation amenities.
- Effective hygiene promotion and capacity building for community stakeholders.
Through these efforts, GIRD aims to improve overall health and well-being, empowering community members to thrive and actively contribute to the betterment of society.
In addition, we have established over 600 Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) within host communities, IDP camps, and returnees' communities in Somalia. These groups have provided crucial support to individuals, particularly women and children, enabling them to gain financial independence and resilience.
GIRD has successfully conducted child protection training for 728 individuals, enhancing community awareness regarding child protection violations and promoting the rights of children. Through our various programs, we strive to empower individuals and foster gender equality in Somali communities, creating safer and more inclusive environments for all.
